Happy Sunday! I hope you are all enjoying your weekend and staying out of the smoke! Grab a beverage and cozy spot, because this is a bit of along one! Parent Homework: 1. Please make sure that the browser your child is running is GOOGLE CHROME. This is the best browser to run all of the apps and sites that we will be using. 2. I am asking you to sit down with your KIndMInd and install an adblocker. Unfortunately, our go-too 'SafetyTube" is no longer accessible. So we need to install an adblocker to keep your child safe. Please search "adblock youtube" in your browser. The first choice is "Adblock for YouTube~ Google chrome. Please install this. It will be an extension on your child's device. It will run as soon as they are logged into Google Chrome. I will be meeting with students/parents who struggled with this from 12:45-1:15 tomorrow. Updates: After much reflection, I have decided to stick with Teams. Unfortunately, some things happened on Friday that have forced my hand. For your child's safety, ability to learn, and my ability to teach, I believe it is best for us to be tied to administration view. We will have to continue to be patient as we navigate this platform. My colleagues and I will be working on a contingency plan to help those who are kicked out or have tech issues. A parent suggested the option of having a "Teams Buddy" So I will be working with tech savy students during recess tomorrow to start this process. Our iReady window is open. This is the most important assessment because it lets me know where your child is starting and exactly what he/she needs to learn. Please refrain from helping your student with any answers. Your child must PAUSE any time they take a break. This assessment will be done during ASYNCHRONOUS time (12:45-2:00 ~except Tuesday due to Music) however, I will be available to help. Your child has the week to complete both Math and ELA. Our Pickup days will be Wednesday and Thursday from 1:15-3:00. Please sign yourself or a family member up for a scheduled time to limit the number of people on campus at once. To make it easier for you, I will have the gates open to the Staff Parking Lot on Dakota. Drive through both gates and onto the blacktop. Head North to park near the Tether Ball Courts. You can then walk up the hallway to Room 19. Please call to me through the open door and I will deliver supplies to you. We must be wearing masks during this interaction. Your student must be wearing a mask and socially distance with me if he/she needs to go into the classroom library for a few books. Classwork: Last week we spent the first two days "training". Friday was spent learning our new class song, dealing with Tech issues and some KindMInds shared their "All About Me" bags. Plans for the week (subject to change depending on Tech behaving): M: "Technology Responsibility" and how to post in Teams to answer a Prompt. Also, how to reply to a peer's post. iReady: the importance, schedule and how to take at home. Goal cards regarding iReady. T: "Bullying" and how to do the ASYNCHRONOUS response in Word in Assignments. This is Mandatory and will be used as a non-graded assessment on Paragraph writing. It WILL be entered into Atlas for participation points. Teaching Flipgrid by reading "Interrupting Chicken". Flipgrid can be accessed by using my class code kaufmann4877 on Flipgrid.com or the free app can be downloaded to a phone. We will do a lot of work through Flipgrid so I will meet with students/parents struggling with Flipgrid from 12:45-1:15. Share Bags. Music will be from 1:25-1:45 and all students must return to the "Join the Meeting" channel in our Team at 1:20. W: "Tattling Vs. Reporting" and post and reply in Teams. Math Number Talks. Share Bags. TH: "Aggressive Vs. Assertive" behavior and a descriptive paragraph in Word in Assignments. Math~ (not sure yet, my brain is fried) and share bags. F: Learning how to use our MMJ (morning meeting journal) with the SEL video. Meeting with Mr. Figura and Mr. Pullen at 10:30. How to take a picture of work and upload to Teams using "Lily's Purple Plastic Purse". Fun Friday to those whom have earned it. If you are a returning GATEr, welcome back! If you are a new GATEr, WELCOME! I and so happy to have you as part of our GATEr family! I am so excited to work with and learn from both you and your student as we engage in a most momentous and unprecedented adventure! Our focus for the first three weeks will be to establish the culture and family of our classroom. We will be doing SEL (social-emotional learning) activities as well as learning the three P’s~ Procedures, Protocols and Platforms. SEL is a passion of mine and I make it a priority EVERY day I teach. While we will be practicing and learning many new skills during our time together, we will also learn how to have a Growth Mindset, collaborate with partners and groups, set goals and self-reflect, be part of a team, compromise, share ideas and thoughts, be leaders and learners, and grow and use our "inner lion". We will start every day with a Morning Meeting and we will also practice "mindfulness", use GoNooodle for BrainBreaks, and Learn and practice Yoga to move our bodies! So if you see your kiddo in a strange position or jumping up and down and singing in front of their device, we are just moving our bodies and taking a break! We will challenge ourselves through novel studies, exploration of concepts, and problem solving. You will demonstrate your learning through PowerPoint, Videos, commercials, art, models, cartoons....the sky is the limit! I look forward to meeting you the week of the 17th! *Please scroll through the tabs at the top to find your supply list under "Resources".* **If you do not have a laptop or tablet with a keyboard, please contact tech services at 559-457-3939 ASAP! It is vital that your child is prepared and ready to go by Aug. 19!** Rest assured; we might be distance learning but we will not be distanced in our hearts and minds.
